Five years ago, Tulip and DMG MORI began a partnership with a vision: to transform manufacturing by making digital tools accessible and empowering operators across the shop floor. This collaboration stemmed from a shared belief that the future of manufacturing relies on seamlessly integrating people, data, and processes—a vision that is now reshaping the industry.

Since our first collaboration at the EMO trade show in October 2019, Tulip and DMG MORI have been building a digital ecosystem that enables manufacturers to work smarter, faster, and more flexibly. By combining DMG MORI’s global manufacturing expertise with Tulip’s innovative no-code platform, we have unlocked new opportunities for innovation and efficiency in DMG MORI’s operations worldwide. Today, as we celebrate our fifth anniversary, we reflect on our achievements and look forward to an even brighter future.

Proof of the Power of Digital Transformation

Tulip and DMG MORI shared a common goal to remove the barriers preventing traditional manufacturers from embracing digital transformation. With a mission to democratize access to powerful digital tools, Tulip’s no-code platform allows operators, engineers, and managers alike to create apps for their digital process. DMG MORI, a global leader in advanced manufacturing, recognized the opportunity to modernize its shop floors by integrating a solution that could scale rapidly and adapt to the unique needs of each site.

The journey began with a pilot project at DMG MORI’s Pfronten plant, where Tulip’s platform was deployed on an assembly line for spindle production. In just three weeks, the team established an optimized takt assembly workflow across 17 stations, showcasing the power of Tulip’s platform to simplify processes and increase productivity. This rapid success was more than just a “proof of value”—it demonstrated how this partnership could deliver real, measurable results in record time.

Building on this momentum, the collaboration quickly expanded. By the end of 2020, DMG MORI launched the first in a series of training programs for operators. More than 40 people from five plants participated in an intensive “Training + Factory Week”. This proved to be a pivotal step in accelerating the adoption of digital applications across DMG MORI’s European facilities.

Empowering People and Standardizing Excellence

As the partnership progressed, scalability and standardization emerged as key priorities. By 2021, DMG MORI had implemented an internal design guide to unify user interfaces, ensure consistent app development, and take a cohesive approach to digital transformation across all facilities. This guide laid the groundwork for streamlining digital adoption and empowering people at all levels.

Empowering people has been central to the partnership, a commitment shared by both Tulip and DMG MORI. In 2022, DMG MORI's Academy introduced an advanced training course with an innovative “blended” training model that combines remote and on-site learning. This model significantly expanded the reach and effectiveness of these programs. Through DMG MORI's Academy, more than 245 operators, technicians, and engineers have been trained as Tulip App Builders, equipped to create and deploy applications that address real-world challenges on the shop floor.

This emphasis on training has created a culture of innovation within DMG MORI’s facilities. App builders, equipped with Tulip’s platform, are empowered to create solutions tailored to their specific needs, reducing dependency on IT teams and enabling rapid problem solving. These app builders have become champions of innovation within their plants, using Tulip’s no-code platform to develop over 300 applications that actively streamline operations. With tools to digitize workflows, capture real-time data, and optimize performance, these app builders are creating meaningful change from within, directly contributing to increased efficiency, quality, and employee satisfaction.

Bringing Tulip to CELOS X

Unveiled at EMO 2023, the integration of Tulip into DMG MORI’s CELOS X platform marked a groundbreaking advancement in their partnership and a leap forward in manufacturing digitization This collaboration takes Tulip’s no-code platform into new territory by embedding it directly into CELOS Xperience, the app hub of CELOS X. Through this integration, Tulip provides operators with guided workflows and real-time data access, enabling them to manage machine setups, troubleshoot problems, and optimize production processes more effectively than ever before

This milestone marks a deeper alignment between Tulip’s human-centric approach to digitization and DMG MORI’s vision of connected, intelligent manufacturing ecosystems. By combining Tulip’s platform with CELOS X's ability to collect and analyze data across devices and systems, the partnership delivers a powerful tool for reducing errors, increasing productivity, and driving innovation on the shop floor. The move also highlights Tulip’s scalability, as it becomes an integral part of a comprehensive system used by manufacturers worldwide.

As a milestone, this integration reflects the evolution of the Tulip-DMG MORI partnership from co-developing applications to building an ecosystem that redefines how data and technology drive operational excellence. It reinforces both companies’ roles as leaders in enabling the future of smart, sustainable manufacturing.
