Operations are unique, and growing organizations and enterprises have one thing in common: they often have different teams and different facilities each with their own needs and requirements. With traditional solutions like MES, deploying to multiple facilities can be tricky. Often, vendors implement clones of their solutions and each facility acts independently of one another. With software solutions moving to the cloud, it is possible to link the data between multiple sites, but may require vendors to create custom solutions, or send the data to a separate system to be processed.

Tulip’s Workspaces capabilities make it easy to access data across multisite operations and get up and running quickly in new facilities, reducing barriers to growth and scaling. Workspaces enable a Tulip account to be partitioned, providing new levels of security and user control while allowing organizations to share common resources to use in their own apps across sites and teams.

Multisite Deployments

The new Workspaces capability in Tulip vastly improves the speed it takes to get up and running in a facility compared to traditional solutions. Tulip’s cloud, Saas-based approach to solutions enables new sites to have out-of-the-box resources ready to be deployed by engineers in no-code apps to begin capturing data. In an operation with multiple sites, it is very common for the different sites to produce, manage, and work on different things and have different ways of operating. Workspaces allow each site to maintain its own autonomy while sharing standard resources, like connectors to third-party systems, and user settings, which are controlled by account owners. Apps and dashboards in a workspace are managed by that workspace, allowing each team to have its own collection of apps for specific use cases and tasks that they need.

Equipment types that are standard across sites can be shared across each Workspace in the form of Machine Type data, allowing engineers to quickly add and manage their own machines to a Workspace with the organization’s ready-to-go machine profiles. Tulip’s Vision camera setups can be shared as well, making it easy to create new detectors at a station with ready-made camera profiles.

Ensuring that solutions collect information in the same standardized way and have the same look and feel across each organization is also a challenge that many enterprises face. Standardizing the way date and time are entered into the solutions while accounting for local time zones and schedules is helpful for visibility without impacting local teams -- and this is possible with Workspaces in Tulip. Tulip also makes it easy to set up brand colors for use across the organization

The Tulip Library makes it easy to get started with solutions. Engineers can click and install solutions to their Workspace, and have access to ready-made apps and templates that can be configured to their specific needs.

Training and Testing

Workspaces can be used for more than just multisite deployments of Tulip. Being able to partition data for testing solutions and training operators ensures that production data and apps are separated. In addition to Tulip’s Developer Mode and app publishing capabilities, customers of Tulip are using Workspaces to safely build and test apps and connectors to minimize disruptions to their day-to-day operations. Having a sandbox to experiment with apps enables engineers to learn and grow with the platform, worry-free.

Data segregation and security

Tulip’s cloud-based approach ensures that data segregation and security are a priority. It’s increasingly important to maintain role-based data segregation and to have extensive control over permissions and access. Data security is embedded into the core of the Tulip platform, with robust user controls to ensure that the sensitive data is only accessible by authorized users. Users can be assigned to specific Workspaces, and their roles can be assigned to any of Tulip’s 13+ user roles as needed by an administrator.

Shared resources and controls across Workspaces breakdown data silos, making sure data is secure, while being usable across the systems and dashboards you need.

The future of operations

Being able to share resources and settings across sites and teams is a powerful new capability in the Tulip platform. Traditional operations software and MES solutions make it challenging to scale and grow your operations with data silos and complex vendor-controlled solutions. Tulip gives you the power and flexibility to control what you share, and how you share it, all with no code needed. Workspaces will continue to gain new features and tools to make it easier than ever to share resources and gain insights into your entire operations.
